Terms
Last updated September 5, 2026
These are the terms for using Lexio. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.
Lexio is run as a sole proprietorship in Massachusetts, United States. Writing to us means writing to a person, not a support queue.
What Lexio is
A reading app for learning a language: a library of texts, a tap to see what a word means, and a review schedule that brings saved words back until they stick.
Reading the bundled library is free, needs no account, and works offline. It is intended to stay that way.
Your account
An account is optional and exists to sync your library between devices. You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself, and for what happens under your account.
One person, one account. Give us an email address that reaches you — if you lose access to it, we may not be able to help you back in.
What you may and may not do
Import text you have the right to import. Pasting in a book you do not hold the rights to is between you and whoever does hold them, not something we can grant.
Do not use the app to attack it: no scripted hammering of the translation, tutor or read-aloud endpoints, no attempt to get around the usage limits, no reselling access.
Do not use it for anything unlawful.
Limits, and what paying changes
Translation, the tutor and read-aloud cost money each time they run, so each has a daily and monthly limit. The limits are published in the app and may change as costs do.
A subscription raises those limits and gives the tutor a stronger model. It does not unlock anything that was previously free — nothing that worked without paying has been taken away, and that is a rule we intend to keep.
The tutor is a language model. It is usually right and it is sometimes confidently wrong, particularly on rare words and unusual grammar. Treat it as a knowledgeable guess rather than an authority, and do not rely on it where being wrong would matter.
Subscriptions, billing and cancelling
A subscription is 4.00 US dollars a month and renews itself each month until you cancel. The price is shown at checkout before you pay, and it is the price that governs.
Payment is taken by Stripe, which is the merchant of record. Your card details go to Stripe and never to us.
Cancel at any time from Settings, which opens Stripe's customer portal. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep everything you have paid for until the end of the period you have already paid for, and nothing is taken away before then.
Because you keep the period you paid for, we do not refund part-months as a matter of course. If something went wrong — you were charged twice, or charged for something you did not mean to buy — write to us and we will sort it out.
If a payment fails, Stripe retries it for about two weeks and emails you. If it never succeeds, the subscription ends and the account returns to the free limits. Nothing you have saved is deleted.
Your content stays yours
The texts you import and the words you save are yours. We claim no ownership of them and do not use them to train anything.
You give us only the permission needed to run the service: to store your texts so another device can read them, and to send a sentence to the services named in the privacy policy when you ask for a translation, an explanation, or audio.
The bundled library, the app, and its design are ours or licensed to us, and are not yours to redistribute.
Availability
Lexio is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, and features may change or be withdrawn.
The one commitment worth making concretely: your library is exportable to a file at any time, without an account and without paying, so that nothing here holds your work hostage.
If the service were ever to shut down, we would give notice and time to export.
Ending it
You can stop at any time. Delete your data, or your whole account, from Settings.
We may suspend or close an account that is being used to attack the service or to break the law. Where it is reasonable to do so first, we will write to you.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Lexio is provided without warranties, and our liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here removes a right you have that cannot be removed by agreement. Some places give consumers rights that override terms like these; where they do, those rights win.
Changes, law, and contact
If these terms change, the date at the top changes. A change that materially affects a subscription will be told to subscribers before it takes effect.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States.
